Synopsis
Set in 1970s Hell’s Kitchen, The Kitchen follows three women – Kathy, Ruby, and Claire – whose husbands are sent to prison for their mob activities. Left to fend for themselves, the women take control of the Irish gang’s operations, proving more ruthless and effective than their husbands ever were. As their power grows, alliances shift and loyalties are tested in a violent struggle for control of the neighbourhood.
Reviews
“The Kitchen is smart enough not to simply equate female empowerment with crime, but whatever price the characters must pay for their newfound power is deeply felt.”
The Hollywood Reporter
“The Kitchen is not a great film. Its graphic novel origins can’t be completely obscured. But it’s a very good film, and a deeply satisfying one.”
San Francisco Chronicle
