Synopsis
Wilfred James (Thomas Jane) is a Nebraska farmer circa 1922, living with his wife Arlette (Molly Parker) and their teenage son Henry (Dylan Schmid). Arlette inherits land and wants to sell and move to the city; Wilfred is vehemently opposed. When Arlette insists on her plan, Wilfred hatches a dark plot: he convinces Henry to help him murder her.
What follows is a descent into guilt, paranoia, and hauntings Wilfred’s sanity unravels. Rats, spectral visions, and the weight of guilt become dominant, pushing him and his household toward tragedy.
Brian d’Arcy James appears in the supporting role of Sheriff Jones – while not central to the plot, the sheriff functions as one of the external figures of law and order which contrasts with Wilfred’s moral decline.
The film is an adaptation of Stephen’s King’s novella of the same name.
