Synopsis

Exiled is set in the young Irish immigrant community of New York. It follows the story of Brendan McDonagh a Dubliner who emigrates to New York in the summer of 1991, and his northern cousin Sean. Brendan’s enthusiasm for starting a new life is soon tempered by the discovery that Sean and his friends have connections with the IRA, shipping arms to republican paramilitaries in Northern Ireland. Sean asks for Brendan’s help in a once off job of moving a consignment of guns due for delivery later in the week as tension between the cousins mounts.

Review

“Taut IRA thriller set in Queens, N.Y., is a solid effort that lifts the lid on underground activities far more authentically than a number of bigger-budget pics have managed. Startlingly downbeat ending may be off-putting to some, but pic doesn’t pull punches in conveying the hard lessons of paramilitary involvement. Bill Muir’s directing debut is marked by strong pacing and good performances, and though the film occasionally resorts to too-convenient shortcuts, its portrait of a subculture rings true. Pic looks unlikely to break out of fest circuit, but should open doors for talent on both sides of the lens.”

There is precious little other information about this film. I can’t find any other critic reviews so it probably didn’t get much, if any, promotion. It’s not listed on BBFC which would suggest it did not get a UK release. There’s no DVD, it’s not available to stream, I can’t find an official poster or any stills from the film. There’s not even a trailer!
